SUMMARY:District 4 Planning Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Instead of the more informal meet-ups we’ve been having recently\, this month we are going to discuss a couple potential projects that our district group could work on:\n1. Attending Alex Pedersen’s Virtual Budget Town Hall on Thursday\, October 8th. If there’s interest in collaborating on this\, we can work together to prepare statements expressing our support for defunding SPD and our disappointment at Pedersen’s failure to take meaningful action on this. Even if we know he’s unlikely to budge\, we have to keep the pressure on. We can also use this as an opportunity to raise awareness in our district about Pedersen’s lack of action.\n2. It does not appear that we have the capacity to host our own townhall\, but DSA will be hosting town halls about defunding SPD in D1\, D2\, D3\, and D6. DESCRIPTION:D4 is launching a monthly reading group! These will take place on the first Thursdays of the month. We tentatively settled on following the education group’s rubric. DESCRIPTION:Join Seattle DSA at this workshop for new and prospective members\, or just those who would like to learn more about the fundamentals of socialist thought and our critique of capitalism. \nThis event is hosted by the Education Committee and SDSA’s District 4 & District 3 neighborhood groups\, but it is open to anyone in the chapter and anyone in the public — bring your friends! \nTransit: The 43 and 48 buses stop close to the library. The 255 and 245 drop off about 5 minutes away. The library is a 15-minute walk from the UW light rail station. \nAccessibility: The library meeting room is wheelchair accessible. The parking lot off E McGraw Street has an ADA parking space. SUMMARY:District 4 Meetup
DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting a gathering for DSA members in District 4 to get to know each other! We’ll discuss some D4 business (like when/where to host another neighborhood member phone bank)\, but mostly it’s just an opportunity to socialize. \nFloating Bridge Brewery graciously said they’d save a table for our group that evening. The space is open to people under 21! They have a range of non-alcoholic drinks available in addition to their beer selection (kombucha\, ginger soda\, root beer\, etc). We’ll have snacks there\, too. (Feel free to bring additional snacks\, but no pressure to do so. The brewery is fine with us bringing any food items in – just no outside drinks.) \nDSA members from other districts are also welcome to attend. Feel free to bring non-DSA-member friends as well. \nParking: I scoped out some parking – there is a pay lot at 45th and 9th\, but it’s rather pricey at about $8.50 for 2 hours. There are 2-hour parking spaces on some of the nearby streets. The best spot I found with a lot of open spaces was on 7th Ave between 47th and 50th Aves. (You can get to those by following the signs to the entrance to the 5\, but veering right instead of getting on the freeway.) \nTransit: The bus stop at 45th & 9th (very close to the brewery) is accessible by the 44\, 167\, 810\, 821\, 855\, 860\, 871\, 880 buses. Also feel free to reach out to me at elisabeth.elin@gmail.com if you’d like a ride. \nAccessibility: The space is wheelchair accessible on both levels of the brewery. Unfortunately\, the bathrooms are not gender neutral.
