SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Rally to Support Alabama Amazon Union Drive! International Day of Action
DESCRIPTION:The rally that had been scheduled for Sat. March 20 was rescheduled to this Friday\, March 26 at 5 pm. We found out from the mayor’s office on the night before the rally that there is a vaccination clinic one block from our rally location. The organizations co-hosting the rally held an emergency meeting and democratically voted to reschedule the rally to avoid potential criticisms from the mayor and capitalist media that we were impeding vaccinations.  We apologize for the inconvenience. \n Please join us this Friday\, March 26 at 5 pm at the Amazon Spheres\, and invite others! \nSeattle DSA\, particularly our District 3 group\, is hosting another rally this Saturday in solidarity with the Alabama Amazon workers union drive! \nEndorsers so far: Asian American Pacific Labor Alliance\, Labor for Black Lives\, Seattle Education Association\, UNITE HERE Local 8\, International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 52\, Social Equity Educators\, 350.org Seattle\, City Councilmember Kshama Sawant\, United Auto Workers Local 4121\, Seattle Transit Riders Union\, National Educators United\, Committee to Stop Police Terror & Systemic Racism\, Socialist Alternative\, Freedom Socialist Party\, Organized Workers for Labor Solidarity\, Radical Women. If anyone can get additional organizations to endorse and invite people\, please email ramy2345@gmail.com \n80% of the Bessemer\, Alabama Amazon warehouse workers are Black\, and many are women. They are fighting the second largest company in the country and the second richest man in the world to set up the first union at an Amazon workplace in the country!  Even if they do not win the union election\, which is quite possible given that Amazon is spending millions to intimidate its workforce\, it’s impressive how much the workers have achieved already. \nA strong show of solidarity at the iconic Amazon spheres here in Amazon’s hometown will send an inspiring message to the Alabama workers that we’ve got their backs.  Please join us this Friday at 5 pm\, please RSVP on Facebook\, and invite friends!!  \nThe rally will educate folks about the PRO Act\, which would remove legal obstacles to unionization\, and call on Biden and the Senate to scrap the filibuster and pass this crucial bill.

DESCRIPTION:Join us this Sunday\, October 18th for a virtual trivia fundraiser for Sherae Lascelles\, running for State Legislature Pos. 2 in the 43rd district. Invite your friends and family to play as a team\, or just bring yourself and we can place you on a team! \nWhy you should come: Not only will trivia be extremely fun\, it will also be a great opportunity to see and play with friends\, new or old\, and family whom you may not be able to see as often due to the pandemic. This will also be an amazing opportunity to learn about and support a local candidate DSA has recently endorsed in a low barrier way. \nAbout Sherae: Sherae Lascelles is a coalition builder\, community legislator\, consultant\, and founding member of Decriminalize Seattle– one of the groups leading the movement to defund SPD and Reinvest in Black Communities. Sherae is also a founder of two direct outreach community orgs\, and is running a campaign of community empowerment and legislation by those most impacted rather than for those who have been systematically disenfranchised in electoral politics. \nOur suggested donation amount to attend is $30.99\, but we encourage you to inventory your privilege when donating and to consider donating to cover the cost of somebody who may not be able to. You do not need to donate to play! \nThis event is open to all. We encourage all Seattle DSA members who are able to stand with SEIU 1199NW in their fight for a fair contract that addresses severe under-staffing and prioritizes patient safety. To learn more about their strike\, please read this press release from SEIU 1199NW. Better yet\, join the picket line\, ask them about their fight\, and listen to their stories! \nIf you are able\, join the picket line on DAY ONE! The strike begins at 7 AM on Tuesday\, 01/28. The picket lines will run continuously at First Hill\, Cherry Hill\, Ballard\, Edmonds and Issaquah campuses. The picket lines at Redmond and Mill Creek will run from 7 AM to 7 PM. The Edmonds\, Redmond\, or Issaquah pickets in particular need support! \nIf you can’t join us at the march or on the picket line\, if you are able please consider donating to the Swedish Strike Solidarity fund.
