It’s clear that far right groups like Patriot Prayer\, the Proud Boys\, and the Boogaloo Movement continue to grow and become emboldened under the Trump administration and this trend looks like it will continue for the foreseeable future. \nHow should socialists\, the labor movement\, and left wing progressive workers and young people fight right-wing extremism? Should left wing protesters arm themselves? Or is continued and growing mass action the answer? What strategies can move wider layers of the multi-racial working class into struggle against right-wing extremism and capitalism? \nJoin District 5 members to discuss these important questions. DESCRIPTION:Robin is an organizer with the Minneapolis teachers union and a leading socialist voice in the Twin Cities BLM movement. She played a central role organizing DSA’s work in the uprising against George Floyd’s murder last year. Robin’s Ward 2 neighborhood was “ground zero” for the police riot and the widespread fires and destruction that followed\, where she organized a mutual aid food distribution center and community-led efforts to rebuild. Out of that work\, and following the Minneapolis City Council’s reversal of their promise to “dismantle” the Minneapolis Police Department\, Robin decided to run for City Council in Ward 2. \nMany Seattle DSA members will remember the inspiring front-line report that Robin gave at our June membership meeting last year. Now\, she and our movement are facing down a right-wing Recall campaign with a low-turnout holiday “special election” on December 7th.\nIf the Recall succeeds\, it will set a dangerous precedent that whenever socialist elected officials prove themselves to be incorruptible fighters for working people and against racism\, they can simply be removed via undemocratic “special elections\,” voter suppression\, or as we recently saw in Buffalo\, corporate-backed write-in campaigns. SUMMARY:SDSA for Gallardo south KC phonebank
DESCRIPTION:Seattle DSA for Gallardo is starting to form teams in various parts of south King County and eastside\, in preparation for our tabling and canvassing activities in various parts of the 9th Congressional District. The campaign wants to collect 1740 signatures from CD-9 voters to get Stephanie on the ballot in lieu of paying a filing fee\, and we hope to start tabling early in 2022. \nWe are starting with a phonebank on January 9 to our members and supporters in south King County and eastside. The goal is to let them know about our endorsed candidate Stephanie Gallardo and recruit for the various city teams. \nBefore the phonebank\, we will get a report on the status of the campaign\, give a quick tutorial of how CallHub works\, and a review of the phonebank script and our main asks. Then we will do phone calls for about an hour to 90 minutes\, then regroup for a recap and report-back. \nRSPV here for the zoom link.
