SUMMARY:Rosa Luxemburg Bio Reading Group
DESCRIPTION:Join the Seattle DSA District 2 reading group on the biography of Rosa Luxemberg by Paul Frölich. Rosa Luxemburg was an inspirational revolutionary leader\, socialist theoretician\, and tireless fighter for the working class right up until the moment when she was tragically murdered during the German Revolution. \nWhile Lenin and the Russian socialists faced brutal oppression which left little room for reformist hopes\, in Germany the situation was far different. The Social-Democratic Party of Germany  (SPD) included labor unionists\, social democrats\, democratic socialists\, revolutionaries of all stripes\, and many who hoped that socialism could be achieved through a peaceful and democratic path. \nThe situation was made immeasurably more complex by the collapse of the 2nd International at the onset of the first World War\, as well as the Russian Revolution which followed shortly. In this confusing situation\, the clarity of thought and the fighting spirit of Rosa Luxemberg were completely unmatched. She expanded Marxist theory with important works on imperialism and economics and fought ceaselessly for social revolution. Ultimately\, she was betrayed and murdered on orders from reformist leaders of the SPD during the failed German Revolution. \nPaul Frölich\, the author\, was a contemporary and comrade of Red Rosa. While many would have settled for a simple hagiography\, his work takes a serious look at Rosa Luxemberg’s politics and the thinking behind it. In a time where the socialist left is once again at a crossroads between the dual pull of reformist and revolutionary tendencies\, Frölich’s work raises essential questions on the nature of capitalism and the road to socialist transformation. \nIn her famous work Reform or Revolution\, Rosa Luxemburg concluded that “Between social reforms and revolution there exists for an inseparable connection. The struggle for reforms is its means; the social revolution\, its aim.” This group is hosted by Seattle DSA District 2. All socialists in any place are welcome to join. \nReading: Chapter 9 required \nMeet time: 2:00 to 3:30 PST \nhttps://zoom.us/j/94759328597 \nMeeting ID: 947 5932 8597 \nQuestions? email the organizer at robertclambertz@gmail.com

SUMMARY:#BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation Next District 3 Reading Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION:Join District 3 members to discuss… \nFrom #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation\nBy Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor \nYou can find the book here: https://b-ok.cc/book/2837404/130bf3 \nThe eruption of mass protests in the wake of the police murders of Michael Brown in Ferguson\, Missouri and Eric Garner in New York City have challenged the impunity with which officers of the law carry out violence against Black people and the illusion of a postracial America. The Black Lives Matter movement has awakened a new generation of activists. \nIn this stirring and insightful analysis\, activist and scholar Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor surveys the historical and contemporary ravages of racism and persistence of structural inequality such as mass incarceration and Black unemployment. In this context\, she argues that this new struggle against police violence holds the potential to reignite a broader push for Black liberation. \nOn Sunday\, July 12 at 6pm we’ll be discussing the Introduction and Chapter 1.\n\n\n\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/87588904982 \nMeeting ID: 875 8890 4982 \n+12532158782 (Tacoma)

SUMMARY:UPDATE: Portland Frontline Eyewitness: Portland DSA Member & 2020 Presidential Election: What should DSA do?
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear from a Portland DSA member on the savage attacks by Federal agents in Portland\, what’s happening on the ground\, and where this could be heading. \nThere are only 4 months until the Presidential election.  As the election draws nearer there will be mounting pressure to support Biden to defeat Trump. Currently\, the National Political Committee of DSA (National elected leadership) has put forward an abstentionist position\, endorsing no candidates\, and not providing a concrete strategy for DSA members to engage in the historic elections or using the elections to advance the resolution passed at the 2019 DSA National Convention of supporting the formation of a working class political party. What should DSA’s approach be to the presidential elections? \nSome Seattle DSA members have put forward a resolution for SDSA to endorse Howie Hawkins and call for a vote for him in “safe states” (states that will overwhelmingly likely vote for Biden\, like WA state) to be voted on at the August SDSA General Membership meeting. (Howie Hawkins campaign website: https://howiehawkins.us)  \nJoin us to discuss what should DSA do in the 2020 Presidential elections\, abstain\, endorse Howie Hawkins and call for a “safe state” strategy\, or another path? \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/85669246835 \nMeeting ID: 856 6924 6835 \n+12532158782 (Tacoma)

SUMMARY:DSA Organizing Committee meeting
DESCRIPTION:Co-chairs of Working Groups and District Groups as well as Local Council members are invited to the third monthly meeting of the Organizing Committee. \nThe Internal Organizers are thinking the 2 main agenda topics for this meeting should be: \n(1) How can we win the defunding of SPD by 50%? \n(2) Resolutions the SDSA membership will vote on at the August General Membership Meeting \nThere is room on the agenda for a few other items\, and we’d really love these meetings to be a collaborative process. So we’d love to get your input on the agenda! Are there items you’d like the whole group to discuss or help plan? Please post suggestions in the Slack Organizing Committee channel\, preferably by Thurs July 23 at 10 a.m. \nJuly 18 at midnight is/was the deadline for members to submit resolutions for the chapter to vote on at the August business meeting. An initial discussion on these resolutions at our Organizing Committee meeting will provide some of our most active members more information about the resolutions and an opportunity to ask questions and potentially have some comradely discussion. This should help co-chairs decide whether there are relevant resolutions to bring to your specific working group or district group for discussion and feedback before the General Membership Meeting. \nPlease mark your calendar for the Organizing Committee meeting: Sat. July 25 at 2 pm. \nAnd most importantly\, please RSVP here to get the Zoom link! \nMembers interested in observing this meeting are invited to RSVP as well.

SUMMARY:#BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation Next District 3 Reading Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION:Join District 3 members to discuss… \nFrom #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation\nBy Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor \n\nOn Sunday\, July 26 at 6pm we’ll be discussing Chapter 4 and 5. \n**If you don’t have time to finish all of it or any of it – come anyway! We’ll have a good discussion and your views are appreciated!** \nThe eruption of mass protests in the wake of the police murders of Michael Brown in Ferguson\, Missouri and Eric Garner in New York City have challenged the impunity with which officers of the law carry out violence against Black people and the illusion of a postracial America. \nYou can find the book here: https://b-ok.cc/book/2837404/130bf3 \n\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/81999350634 \nMeeting ID: 819 9935 0634 \n+12532158782 (Tacoma)

SUMMARY:D2 Group Discussion: When Race and Gender Become Weapons of the Capitalist Class
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis week Carmen Best resigned from her role as chief of the Seattle Police Department and Kamala Harris joined the Democratic ticket as Joe Biden’s running mate. How do we analyze the capitalist weaponization of race and gender without resorting to class reductionism? How do we develop an intersectional socialist analysis aligned with the projects of Black liberation and decolonization? \nJoin SDSA’s District 2 Group in a discussion (via Zoom) of recent events and their implications. We’ll also devote a little time to start the process of power mapping so we can support our chapter’s efforts to defund SPD. \nRSVP here for Zoom details.

SUMMARY:District 3 Phonebank: Calling our fellow SDSA District 3 members
DESCRIPTION:Join your District 3 comrades for an internal phonebank! We’ll be calling up our fellow friendly neighborhood socialists to mobilize them to upcoming events and engage in political discussion. Most importantly\, we’ll be talking to folks about organizing online town halls this Fall to put pressure on wavering City Council members to stick to their promises of defunding SPD by at least 50%! This is an important way we as DSA can contribute to the movement calling to defund the police and reallocate funding to Black working-class communities. It’s also important for us as socialists in a political organization to engage each other in conversation for our collective political development\, especially as the pandemic continues and many of our comrades feel isolated. \nThis is a fun\, easy action to take. We’ll meetup on Zoom before making calls to prepare. \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/83060748693 \nMeeting ID: 830 6074 8693 \n+12532158782 (Tacoma)

SUMMARY:The Murder of Fred Hampton: District 3 Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join Seattle DSA District 3 for a ZOOM screening and discussion of the 1971 documentary film\, The Murder of Fred Hampton. \nThe Black Panther Party was the most significant independent Black revolutionary movement in North America and the most radical mass organization of the Civil Rights Era. It brought together thousands of Black people to protect themselves from racist police violence and white supremacy and provided community support through social programs like the Free Breakfast for Children Program\, and was organized on a platform of explicit revolutionary socialism. \nFred Hampton was the Illinois chairman of the Black Panther Party when he was murdered in his home by police and FBI agents in 1969. This documentary portrays the Black Panther Party\, Hamptons role in the Chicago Black Panther Party and his murder by the police. \nJoin us after the film for a discussion on the lessons for our struggle against police brutality and endemic racism under capitalism. \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82278319223

SUMMARY:D2 Monthly Meeting – A Third Party for the Working Class: Not If but When
DESCRIPTION:Join comrades from District 2 (southeast Seattle) on Thursday August 20\, 6-8 pm\, for a lively Zoom discussion on the prospects for an independent working-class political party. \nAt the DSA national convention in 2019\, delegates overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution titled “Class Struggle Elections”  which stated: \nDSA is committed to building political organization independent of the Democratic Party and their capitalist donors …  In the longer term\, our goal is to form an independent working-class party\, but for now this does not rule out DSA-endorsed candidates running tactically on the Democratic Party ballot line. \nWithin Seattle DSA\, there exist multiple opinions on the timeframe for this activity. At our August 20 district 2 meeting\, you will have a chance to discuss these alternatives. Two comrades from Seattle DSA will set the stage by presenting two of the more widely held positions\, one in favor of a more short-term break with the Democratic Party\, and one in favor of the so-called “dirty break” strategy. \nBefore discussing our relationship with the Democratic Party and prospects of an independent working class party\, we will spend some time on the more immediate issue of police accountability\, with a power mapping exercise within D2. \nFor Zoom details\, RSVP here.

SUMMARY:AOC\, Cori Bush & Biden: The Coming Collision in the Democratic Party Next District 3 Mtg
DESCRIPTION:Join Seattle DSA District 3 members to discuss… \nThe Democratic National Convention represented the consolidation of the moderate\, pro-corporate wing of the Democratic Party and a repudiation of the politics of Bernie Sanders\, AOC\, and the insurgent left wing candidates like Cori Bush\, a BLM activist and DSA member who defeated a dynastic incumbent from the Black Democratic Party establishment. In NY\, five DSA members were elected to office. One\, Jaamal Bowman\, unseated a 16 term incumbent from the Democratic Party establishment\, and will add to the Squad in Congress. What do the victories by left wing candidates signify? Can they co-exist with the Biden/Harris wing? Can we reform the Democratic Party and use it to fight for our interests? Or do we need to take steps toward a new political party? What is the role of Socialists in Congress? What can DSA do to hasten the collision between the establishment and the left wing? \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/85781955721 \nMeeting ID: 857 8195 5721 \n+12532158782 (Tacoma)

SUMMARY:Defund SPD Action Meeting: Organizing Town Halls in District 3
DESCRIPTION:Join District 3 members and others to discuss organizing online town halls in districts 3 & 6 to pressure city councilmembers to stay true to their pledge to cut SPD by 50%. \nSeven out of nine Seattle City Council members pledged to defund the Seattle Police Department by 50% and reinvest those funds in community-led health and safety services. They voted to make some important cuts to the SPD budget\, but only 3%. During the 2021 budget negotiation process\, the campaign to defund the SPD by at least 50% must hold our City Council members accountable to not only our demands\, but also to their own promises. \nAs part of a resolution passed by the chapter last month\, SDSA is pushing to organize online town halls in as many districts as possible. Our comrades in the Afrosocialists and Socialists of Color caucus are leading the way in District 1. As the largest and most active district group\, D3 can be an organizing engine for these town halls.Let’s get together to discuss possible coalition partners\, organizing and mobilization strategy\, and timeline. Let’s put pressure on City Council to meet the demands of the movement! \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86069101473\nMeeting ID: 860 6910 1473\n+12532158782  (Tacoma) \n

SUMMARY:How Should Socialists Fight Right-Wing Extremism? Next District 3 Mtg
DESCRIPTION:Given the recent shootings in Kenosha and Portland\, and their aftermath\, it’s important we continue discussing right-wing extremism. This is a natural follow-up to our meeting on fascism last month\, which was a good discussion but didn’t focus enough on how we fight right-wing extremism today. It’s clear that far right groups like Patriot Prayer\, the Proud Boys\, and the Boogaloo Movement continue to grow and become emboldened under the Trump administration and this trend looks like it will continue for the foreseeable future. \nHow should socialists\, the labor movement\, and left wing progressive workers and young people fight right-wing extremism? Should left wing protesters arm themselves? Or is continued and growing mass action the answer? What strategies can move wider layers of the multi-racial working class into struggle against right-wing extremism and capitalism? \nJoin District 3 members to discuss these important questions as well as an update on the BLM uprising and our efforts to organize town halls to pressure council members to stay true to their pledge to defund SPD by 50%. \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86401993717\nMeeting ID: 864 0199 3717\n+12532158782 (Tacoma)

SUMMARY:FDR & Obama: Debunking the Myths of the Democratic Party Next District Reading/Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION:A mythology surrounds the Democratic Party. We’re told that it’s the party that represents working people\, oppressed communities\, and the environment. This is largely based on the raft of social reforms known as the New Deal\, but also the election of Obama\, the first black President.  But do the Democrats deserve the mantle of being the party that represents working people? What is the true history of the New Deal?  Why did the scion of one of the wealthiest and most powerful capitalist families in the US (Roosevelt) go against the apparent interests of the capitalist system\, its representatives in both major parties\, and the corporate media and introduce far reaching reforms that benefited working people? Are we to believe that FDR was a socialist\, like Sanders suggested in a speech during his campaign? What is the true history of the New Deal\, of the Democratic Party? Whose interests do the Democratic Party ultimately represent\, working people or big business? If we accept they represent the 1% and not working people\, how do we convince the majority of working people of this?  \nJoin District 3 members to discuss\, from a socialist and class based perspective\, the history and role of the Democratic Party and whether we should attempt to reform the Democrats\, form a new party\, or turn away from elections and instead focus on building movements. This is the first session in a series of discussions on socialists and elections. \nThe readings are encouraged but not required! If you don’t have time to read\, please come anyway! Your thoughts and views are highly valuable and we want to hear them. 🙂 \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86224573870\nMeeting ID: 862 2457 3870\n12532158782 (Tacoma) \nArticle: THE OBAMA YEARS OF SQUANDERED HOPES\nhttps://socialistworker.org/2017/01/06/the-obama-years-of-squandered-hopes \nNYT Opinion: Joe Biden’s Success Shows We Gave Obama a Free Pass\nBy Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor\nhttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/05/opinion/Biden-Obama-2020.html?referringSource=articleShare \nLabors Giant Step\, Ch.2\, “New Deal: Myth and Fact” (3.5 pages)\nhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_0ldnWYOkoDZHc3TFhpdTRRQ0lhbVRiZS10cGFOV3IyMFNZ/view?usp=drivesdk \nVIDEO: Mouseland (1992\, 8 min) Powerful agitation for workers to have their own political party\, a mass workers party. Told by Tommy Douglas\, leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada. It was a political fable expressing their view that the Canadian political system only offered voters a false choice between two parties\, both representing the interests of big business (cats) and not workers (mice). The mice voted in black cats\, which represented the Conservative Party. Then they voted in the white cats\, which symbolized the Liberal Party\, and the government was still run by cats. Eventually a mouse gets the idea that mice should run their government\, not the cats.

SUMMARY:Protest outside Councilmember Andrew Lewis’ residence!
DESCRIPTION:Today a majority of the Democrats on the City Council will likely vote NOT to override Mayor Durkan’s veto of the SPD budget cuts. This would be a massive\, racist betrayal of their previous pledge to defund SPD by 50%! The city council needs to hear from us\, loud and clear: Stand with the Black Lives Matter movement\, and vote to override the Mayor’s veto!  \n  \nAlthough it’s short notice\, DSA’s Local Council and our Afrosocialist comrades decided to host a protest TODAY from 12 – 4 pm outside Councilmember Andrew Lewis’s residence!  We should do everything we can before this historic vote and make the city council pay a political price if they do not override the mayor’s veto. We are inviting the media to the protest. \n \nShare widely and invite friends!!!\nhttps://fb.me/e/3iPwdAuWf  \nhttps://www.instagram.com/p/CFcbz37gJAg/?igshid=1hhy0rj139jx8 \nhttps://twitter.com/SeattleDSA/status/1308321016687374336  \n\nHope to see you at noon at Counterbalance Park (700 Queen Anne Ave N)! SUMMARY:Supreme Court Fight: What Can DSA and the Left Do to Stop Trump? Next District 3 Mtg
DESCRIPTION:The death of Ruth Bader Ginsberg has catapulted the 2020 presidential elections into an inferno.  It’s likely Trump and the GOP will attempt to install a right wing justice that would threaten key reforms like abortion rights. What is under threat with the appointment of a right wing Justice? What role does the Supreme Court play and what determines the law? Some on the left are saying that the Supreme Court has been and is inherently a right wing\, pro-capitalist institution so it doesn’t really matter if another right wing Justice is confirmed\, is this true? Should we instead focus on building movements\, like BLM\, instead? Or should DSA and the Left organize mass protests? If so\, what should we demand? SUMMARY:Defund SPD Action Meeting: Organizing Town Halls in District 3
DESCRIPTION:Let’s check in about the state of the online Town Halls we’re building. As the experience of the recent veto override vote has taught us\, City Council will only meet the demands of the Defund SPD movement under massive pressure. The veto override was an important victory\, but the pressure must be ramped up to meet the demand of defunding SPD by at least 50%! \nThis week\, Black Collective Voice endorsed SDSA’s town halls\, and Tammy Morales has agreed to attend the town hall in District 2! \nOn Sunday we’ll discuss next steps for building our town hall in District 3\, then we’ll have an internal phonebank to talk to fellow DSA members in our district about the town halls to make sure they show up and maybe even volunteer to help organize. \nIf you haven’t done a phonebank with DSA before\, please let me know so I can add you to Callhub! \nHope to see you all on Sunday! \n \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82427786212 \n12532158782 \nMeeting ID: 824 2778 6212

SUMMARY:Seattle DSA General Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join Seattle DSA for our monthly General Membership Meeting! \nTrump election theft or Biden victory? Preparing the left and the working class for the fightback\nTrump’s COVID diagnosis may have slowed him down. But his attacks on democratic rights in the November election were long ago in motion: racist voter intimidation\, questioning mail-in ballots\, and repeatedly giving the impression that he may refuse to concede. Trump may try to steal the election or alternatively Biden may win it handily. The left needs to be prepared either way to fight for working class interests leading up to November 3\, on November 3\, and through the next presidency. At our meeting tomorrow we’ll discuss:\n\nHow should the left and DSA fight back if Trump tries to steal the election? How do we defend working class voter rights even as we give no support to Biden?\nWhat should we organize here in Seattle to prepare for this outcome?\nIf Biden wins outright\, how do we hit the ground running demanding Medicare for All; Green New Deal; an end to racist policing\, mass incarceration\, and ICE?\n\nThis is a virtual meeting. For Zoom login info\, RSVP HERE or check Seattle DSA’s Slack. \nAre you a new SDSA member and want to get on Slack? Send your welcome email from Maria Svart to info@seattledsa.org and we’ll get you added to Slack! \nYou can find the agenda here. If you have an announcement or suggestion for the agenda\, please email info@SeattleDSA.org

SUMMARY:Will Trump try to Steal the Election? What Can DSA and the Left do to stop him? Next D3 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Aside from the debate being a dumpster fire\, it made clear that the threat of Trump attempting to steal the election is real and dire. For weeks\, and now on the biggest stage yet for the election\, Trump has been engaging in vast voter suppression that goes well beyond the usual GOP voter suppression\, which is also happening.  Trump has claimed that mail-in ballots will be fraudulent\, that the election is rigged against him\, has called on his supporters and the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” and go to polling stations\, has taken steps\, through his political appointees\, to slow down the mail\, and has said that the Supreme Court will decide the outcome. There are many scenarios where Trump and the GOP can sow confusion and chaos and\, unfortunately\, the Democratic Party has a rich history of rolling over in the face of GOP ruthlessness and militancy.  Will Trump try to steal the elections?  What are the scenarios that could play out on Nov 3?  Will there be right wing violence? What can DSA and the Left do to stop him and defend our democracy? \nJoin District 3 members to discuss these critical questions and begin planning our response in Seattle! \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/85027496330 \nIf you need to call in:\nMeeting ID: 850 2749 6330\n+12532158782

SUMMARY:Queer & Feminist Happy Hour: The Paris Commune
DESCRIPTION:This month we learn and talk about the Paris Commune: the first time in history that working class people took power! \nIn 1871\, workers in Paris organized themselves\, took political and economic power from the capitalists\, and ran the city in their interests for two whole months. One of the first experiments in working class democracy\, the workers set up their own government\, limiting the salary of any employee of the Commune to a typical workers’ wage. \nThe Paris Commune was so important to socialists and revolutionaries of the time that Marx and Engels even revised part of the Communist Manifesto based on the lessons of the commune. What lessons did socialists and revolutionaries take from the commune after its defeat? What lessons does this history have for us today? And what role did women play in the creation and defense of the Commune? \nJoin the Queer and Feminist Caucus for our monthly Working Class History Happy Hour\, featuring working class struggles led by women and queer people throughout history. \nThis is an online meeting. RSVP here to get the Zoom link! \nJoin us on the Queer & Feminist Slack channel if you have ideas\, would like to help organize\, or have any questions! Coming up in future months: the General Strike of Enslaved People & the Civil War & more!

SUMMARY:Sherae for State Trivia Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Join us this Sunday\, October 18th for a virtual trivia fundraiser for Sherae Lascelles\, running for State Legislature Pos. 2 in the 43rd district. Invite your friends and family to play as a team\, or just bring yourself and we can place you on a team! \nWhy you should come: Not only will trivia be extremely fun\, it will also be a great opportunity to see and play with friends\, new or old\, and family whom you may not be able to see as often due to the pandemic. This will also be an amazing opportunity to learn about and support a local candidate DSA has recently endorsed in a low barrier way. \nAbout Sherae: Sherae Lascelles is a coalition builder\, community legislator\, consultant\, and founding member of Decriminalize Seattle– one of the groups leading the movement to defund SPD and Reinvest in Black Communities. Sherae is also a founder of two direct outreach community orgs\, and is running a campaign of community empowerment and legislation by those most impacted rather than for those who have been systematically disenfranchised in electoral politics. \nOur suggested donation amount to attend is $30.99\, but we encourage you to inventory your privilege when donating and to consider donating to cover the cost of somebody who may not be able to. You do not need to donate to play! \nThis event is open to all. You don’t need to be involved with SDSA and you don’t even need to live in WA! So tell your friends\, tell your families\, tell your roommates\, your coworkers – invite everyone you know to participate in this night of virtual trivia fun and positive impact! \n  \n  \nRSVP here: https://actionnetwork.org/events/seattle-dsa-sherae-for-state-trivia-fundraiser/

SUMMARY:Phone Bank to Recruitment Pledge Signers
DESCRIPTION:RSVP here \nTake a couple hours to call your fellow DSA members to discuss how their recruitment efforts are going. We’ll be calling Seattle DSA members who’ve stepped up and signed the Pledge to talk to three people in their life about DSA. The idea is to offer some gentle reminders and helpful encouragement. No judgements! If you have signed the Pledge yourself\, you will be able to discuss what’s been helpful for you. If you have not signed the pledge yourself\, that’s okay! Maybe your life is filled with conservative people. This can be a great way to help out without directly recruiting yourself. \nWe’ll meet at 5pm\, on Zoom\, to check in\, answer questions\, and distribute names and spreadsheet info.\nWe’ll be available to talk again at 6pm\, in case there are other questions\, or for people who need to join late. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/8309135610 \nMeeting ID: 830 913 5610\nOne tap mobile\n+12532158782\,\,8309135610# US (Tacoma) \nDial by your location\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\nMeeting ID: 830 913 5610 \nHere are some questions to help our discussions with members get started:\nHave you been able to contact your three people in your life about DSA?\nWhat’s gone well? What’s been hard or not gone well?\nWhat are your obstacles and fears about talking to people about DSA?\nWhat does DSA mean to you? What do you personally value about DSA? Can you share these things?\nWe have some recruitment slide shows and information that might be helpful. – would you like us to send you the links?\nCelebrate successes – whether that’s getting someone to join or just having the conversations about joining.\nEven if people say No\, at least you’ve told them more about you and about DSA. And we’ll be here if they ever change their mind.

SUMMARY:Stop Trump from Stealing the Election: Planning Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Trump is doing everything he can to undermine ballot counting and mobilize his supporters to engage in racist voter intimidation. If the initial vote count is close on Election Day\, he could try to steal the election and encourage the Supreme Court not to count all votes. To prepare\, DSA’s Local Council has called an Action Assembly to bring activists and progressive organizations together.  This will put the left in a stronger position to spring into action if we need to organize mass non-violent protests\, civil disobedience\, and strikes\, which are our strongest weapons.  DSA will not offer any political support to Biden\, but we will build a united front with others to defend the democratic rights of the working class and people of color. And if Biden ends up taking power\, this Action Assembly will also help the left prepare to fight under a Biden administration. \nWe really need your help with postering\, calling and texting DSA members\, and reaching out to unions & organizations! So please join this planning meeting Thursday at 5 pm. \nPlease mark your calendar to participate in the Action Assembly on Sunday\, Nov. 1 at 3 pm at Cal Anderson Park! \nAnd please RSVP and invite friends to this event page! \nThursday’s Planning Meeting Zoom:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81430523843?pwd=elhKdk8rZ3NDaXFpS052L3pvZVpzZz09\nOr if necessary\, call (253) 215-8782\nMeeting ID: 814 3052 3843\nPasscode: 574196One tap mobile option\n+12532158782\,\,81430523843#\,\,\,\,\,\,0#\,\,574196# \n\n\nIf you have questions/concerns/ideas\, or you want to help\, please contact Ramy at ramy2345(a)gmail.com

SUMMARY:How Were Abortion Rights Won? What lessons can we learn for today? Next District 3 Mtg
DESCRIPTION:“I will appoint judges that will overturn Roe v Wade”\, pledged Trump in 2016\, This coming week the Senate will vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court potentially taking a huge stride toward realizing the Right’s decades long struggle to overturn Roe vs. Wade.  This comes on the heels of Trump appointing a record amount of right wing judges – including 3 Supreme Court judges!- the vast majority of which the Democrats voted to confirm.  The threat to Roe V Wade\, and awhole raft of other reforms\, is clear and present. \nIndefensibly\, the Democratic Party threw in the towel before it even got in the ring by refusing to wage a fight to stop the confirmation of Barrett. In fact\, Biden has all but ruled out packing the court with liberal judges to offset the impact of a majority conservative court!  This is in keeping with the Democratic Party’s willful failure to fight for women’s rights against the remorseless assault by the GOP. Why doesnt the Democractic Party defend women’s rights as militantly as the GOP does in attacking those rights? Will Roe vs. Wade be overturned? How can we defend women’s right to control their bodies? How were abortions rights won in the first place and what lessons can we learn from that movement today? What’s the role of socialists in the fight against oppression? \nJoin Seattle DSA members to discuss these critical questions and more! \n  \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82288030017 \nIf you need to call in:\n12532158782\nMeeting ID: 822 8803 0017

DESCRIPTION:Join other Seattle DSA District 3 members this Sunday October 25th at 11am for postering in District 3 to get the word out about the Action Assembly at Cal Anderson Park on Sunday November 1st!  It’ll be nice to see each other in socially distanced person! \nIt is critical that the left collectively mobilizes to plan and strategize for what comes after the election\, regardless of who is elected. Trump is undermining mail in voting\, ballot counting\, and inciting his supporters to engage in racist voter suppression and intimidation. We have less than 2 weeks until the election and it’s time to start preparing for mass non-violent protests\, strikes\, and peaceful civil disobedience if necessary\, as those are the strongest tools available to us. \nCome join us on Sunday!\nMasks are mandatory** \nMeet up at:\nCafe Victrola\n411 15th Ave E

\nWe really need your help with postering\, calling and texting DSA members\, reaching out to unions & organizations! So please join this planning meeting Monday at 4 pm. \nPlease mark your calendar to participate in the Action Assembly on Sunday\, Nov. 1 at 3 pm at Cal Anderson Park! \nAnd please RSVP and invite friends to this event page! \nPlanning Meeting Zoom:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81430523843?pwd=elhKdk8rZ3NDaXFpS052L3pvZVpzZz09\nOr if necessary\, call (253) 215-8782\nMeeting ID: 814 3052 3843\nPasscode: 574196\nOne tap mobile option\n+12532158782\,\,81430523843#\,\,\,\,\,\,0#\,\,574196# \n\n\nIf you have questions or ideas\, or you want to help\, please contact Ramy at ramy2345(a)gmail.com

SUMMARY:*Cancelled* Sherae For State Subcommittee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Given that it’s the final week of the campaign\, we thought it might be a good idea to cancel this meeting so people can do campaign work. Go to sheraeforstate.com and volunteer\, knock your block\, etc! \nRecently\, Seattle DSA voted to endorse WA State Rep. candidate Sherae Lascelles (they/them)! They are running against Frank Chopp on a platform of taxing the *hell* out of the rich\, putting people over profit\, equity and accessibility\, mutual aid and community-care. If you’re interested in planning some of our actions relating to the campaign\, including lit drops\, tabling\, and events\, or you have other ideas\, come to this meeting! Check slack for zoom information!
