Please join the Seattle DSA District 2 Group’s July Zoom meeting focused on Seattle’s movement for Black Lives, co-sponsored by Seattle DSA’s Afrosocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus.

We’ll hear from members of our Afrosocialist and Socialists of Color caucus on efforts to defund the police, and from our local Martin Luther King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay on the work he’s doing to support our movement as we reimagine public safety.

What has the movement for Black Lives looked like nationally and locally? How does Black liberation intersect with democratic socialism? Why do we need to defund the police? What are our demands for CM Zahilay and other elected officials?

6:30 – 7:00    Forum with CM Zahilay

• 10-15 minute presentation by CM Zahilay on his work in support of our movement
• 15-20 minutes of Q&A moderated by Afrosocialists & Socialists of Color caucus

7:00 – 7:45    Discussion of Seattle’s Movement for Black Lives

• 7:00 – 7:15 Analysis of March for Accountability and other SDSA work

• 7:15 – 7:50 Open discussion: What should Seattle DSA do to forward the movement’s three demands?
