Education has the power to transform people’s lives when it’s culturally relevant and fully funded.

We are demanding that City of Seattle defund the police by 50% and reinvest those funds into programs that support Black youth.

Here are our 10 demands : 1) Community Schools, 2) Restorative Justice, 3) Black Studies and Ethnic Studies, 4) Hire Black teachers, 5) Anti-Racists Professional Development, 6) Accountability, 7) Student Representation, 8) Youth Achievement Center, 9) Community Control of Schools, and 10) Community of Control of Education Resources and Levy Funds.

More info on each demand can be found on the event’s Facebook page.

At the July 31st Black Education Now Rally, students, activists, educators, and political leaders will be speaking and performing to present our ten demands for Black Education Now!

As we meet as a community, we will then be taking our demands to city hall to deliver them in person in a ten car brigade.

Although our demands will require the system change, they are obtainable and vital to the success of BIPOC students.

Come help DSA’s table to collect signatures to defund SPD and demand Mayor Durkan’s resignation. (The DSA table was approved by one of the organizers Jesse Hagopian.)
