Time for something a little different: we’re going to be emphasizing the “community” in “community service” this August. Coming from disadvantaged situations, the residents of LIHI properties don’t always have access to fun events that cost money. This month, DSA members will be throwing a BBQ/picnic for the residents where we can talk, break bread, and share companionship and joy with them!
When: August 19, 12:30-3:30 PM
Where: South Lake Union neighborhood, near several transit options and weekend parking
What: DSA members who come should bring a food item or donate so that the community service committee can purchase some food for the BBQ. We’ll look forward to meeting and greeting members of the LIHI community at a property our community service committee has done work at before! We’ll talk, mingle, eat, drink, and play some bingo!
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know what you’d like to bring, or to donate.
Who: All are welcome at this event! We expect about 40 residents will be coming as well as our DSA members. Once we get a final headcount, on August 12th, we’ll reach out and confirm what everyone is bringing so we don’t have too much potato salad!
Why: While service is important, sharing community with LIHI residents, can be just as important in uniting Seattle. Our Community Service committee believes strongly in housing as a right for all, but connections with others who live in our city are also important.
Have questions? Please let us know, we’re looking forward to mingling with you for a good cause.
