D4.D5.Ecosocialism Reading Group

March 24 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

A new political education series to sharpen our thinking and communication skills in our organizing for democratic socialism.  Many areas of practice will be addressed and tied into the struggle to create an Ecosocialist society. Everyone is welcome to join via Zoom for now; we will meet in D4 or D5 when we can again meet in person.  This group will start off with articles or book chapters/excerpts to make it easier for everyone to attend when they can.

On Thursday, March 24, we will be reading “Revolutionary practice and prefigurative politics*: A clarification and defense,” by Paul Raekstad, a 2017 article from Constellations: An International Journal of Critical and International Theory.

Raekstad argues that ideas about prefigurative politics* are rooted in Marx’s thinking as well as in Anarchist thought.

*What’s that?! Prefigurative politics are strategies for winning revolutionary objectives, where present- day organizing practices are aligned with the characteristics of the future society we seek.
