Defund SPD Action Meeting: Organizing Town Halls in District 3

Join District 3 members and others to discuss organizing online town halls in districts 3 & 6 to pressure city councilmembers to stay true to their pledge to cut SPD by 50%.
Seven out of nine Seattle City Council members pledged to defund the Seattle Police Department by 50% and reinvest those funds in community-led health and safety services. They voted to make some important cuts to the SPD budget, but only 3%. During the 2021 budget negotiation process, the campaign to defund the SPD by at least 50% must hold our City Council members accountable to not only our demands, but also to their own promises.
As part of a resolution passed by the chapter last month, SDSA is pushing to organize online town halls in as many districts as possible. Our comrades in the Afrosocialists and Socialists of Color caucus are leading the way in District 1. As the largest and most active district group, D3 can be an organizing engine for these town halls.Let’s get together to discuss possible coalition partners, organizing and mobilization strategy, and timeline. Let’s put pressure on City Council to meet the demands of the movement!
