Domestic Violence, Household Work, and Essential Work: Why COVID-19 is a Socialist Feminist Issue Next District 6 mtg

April 19, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

COVID 19 has universally affected our neighbors and communities.  Even relatively well-off workers are suddenly coping with working from home and childcare, while the most vulnerable now find themselves competing for ever scarcer resources. While we are all feeling the effects of this crisis, some workers are disproportionately affected.

    • Frontline and essential workers, who are more likely to be women and people of color (working class jobs — healthcare, sanitation, grocery stores, etc)

    • People who were already unemployed, self-employed, working domestically under the table- will not be getting unemployment- and undocumented workers will not be getting a stimulous check.

    • Homeless resources stretched past breaking point- shelters closing up to half of their bed space, soup kitchens and food banks over-taxed: all issues linked to intersectionality/DV/poverty

Join us to discuss how COVID-19 has further exposed the injustices of Capitalism and the Socialist demands that we can build towards in DSA
