Free Public Transit in Seattle and Beyond

May 21, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

From the Transit Riders Union website:

Ever wonder why we pay for public transit, but elevators are free? Free public transit lies at the intersection of climate justice and economic justice, and it may be an idea whose time is coming: cities from Paris to Seoul are experimenting with free transit to reduce pollution and congestion.

Thanks to years of work by grassroots organizers and organizations like TRU, Seattle and King County are already national leaders in affordable transit. But are we ready to take the next step?

Join the Transit Riders Union and friends on May 21st for the launch of a new book and a new campaign!

Author Rosalie Ray will speak about the hot-off-the-press book “Free Public Transit: And Why We Don’t Pay to Ride Elevators.” Other speakers include:

  • Ifrah Abshir, a leader in the successful campaign to win free transit passes for Seattle public school students
  • Seattle City Councilmember Mike O’Brien
  • Katie Wilson, general secretary of the Transit Riders Union

And more to be announced!
