After a surge of democratic socialist electoral victories following Trump’s election and a groundswell of grassroots organizing, it’s no surprise that the corporate establishment is escalating their ferocious campaigns against our growing socialist movement. We need to look no further than Seattle, where Amazon, Vulcan Development, Puget Sound Energy, and conservative Trump-donors are all in: together they’ve contributed nearly $2 million in PAC money to buy this election and defeat the socialists and progressives running for City Council.
The capitalist class has their business-friendly slate in the Chamber of Commerce candidates, and a political alliance with deep pockets and the corporate press. This election is about who gets to run Seattle: big business or working people? Seattle’s socialists, workers, activists, and youth and have been able to win important victories over the past few years, from a $15 minimum wage to landmark renter protections and tens of millions for affordable housing; but we learned with last year’s repeal of the modest Amazon Tax that we need to build an even stronger movement to win bolder demands like rent control, taxes on big business, and democratic public control over utilities and housing. This year we have an opportunity to strengthen the socialist voice and build left unity in City Hall, and further inspire the left and working people by showing them what’s possible despite the unprecedented attacks of big business on our movement. Join the socialists on October 12 and help us fight for the city we need!
