DSA’s Midwest Electoral Surge: A National Solidarity Event

September 28, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

RSVP here!

DSA’s electoral strength is surging in Minneapolis, with five DSA-endorsed candidates running for election to the 13-member City Council. In Indianapolis, DSA is on the verge of electing its first City Councilmember.

To support and learn from our Midwest comrades, three Pacific Northwest DSA chapters – Seattle, Tacoma, and Portland – are hosting a national solidarity event and a discussion with three DSA Midwest candidates up for election in November!

Robin Wonsley is the first Black democratic socialist elected to Minneapolis City Council. Robin was a leader in the movement that won a $15 minimum wage in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul). She emerged as a key leader and DSA’s foremost spokesperson in Minneapolis during the George Floyd uprising, and her initial election victory in 2021 was fueled by the energy of that movement.

Soren Stevenson is running to expand Twin Cities DSA’s presence in Minneapolis City Hall from its current three members to five. His eye was shot out by the Minneapolis Police Department during the George Floyd uprising, and he is now running for office to help defeat the conservative majority dominating city government.

Jesse Brown is running for Indianapolis City Council to promote a socialist vision of workers’ rights, housing and healthcare for all, and environmental justice. He won over 55% in the May Democratic primary election running openly as a Democratic Socialist. He would be Indianapolis DSA’s first elected council member.
