Native American Resistance in the Northwest: Tributes in Film

November 21 @ 7:00 pm

3 Indigenous people in a small boat, smoothly drifting through a river

Be inspired by courageous fights of Puget Sound area tribes for survival and sovereignty as shown in two powerful documentaries.

Back to the River, a 40-minute film, features historic footage and recent interviews with leaders and participants in the “Fish Wars” along the banks of the Nisqually and Puyallup Rivers. The defiance of Indigenous men, women and children ultimately affirmed that U.S. and state governments must abide by treaty promises.
Also featured: We’re Still Here, an 8-minute interview of Cecile Hansen, who at the time was chairperson of the Duwamish Tribe. Seattle sits upon the territory of the Duwamish people, but they are still deprived of federal recognition and resources as a tribe.
