Rally & Public Hearing: Tax Amazon to Build Affordable Housing ?

Seattle is facing a massive crisis of affordable housing, with skyrocketing rents and escalating homelessness.
This crisis is not necessary. Seattle is booming. Amazon is making record profits, and CEO Jeff Bezos has become the world’s richest person. Big business like Amazon have received a stunning $1.8 billion tax break from the Trump administration.
By taxing the biggest 5% to 10% of Seattle’s corporations, we can raise $150 million per year to fund 750 new affordable housing units every year, and dramatically expand homeless services.
But to win this, we will need to build a fighting movement. The corporate-dominated majority of the City Council voted in November against a similar tax on big business. Amazon alone threw down $350,000 for Mayor Durkan’s campaign last year. Come to City Hall and demand that Seattle tax big business to build affordable housing!
