Reproductive Rights Coordinating Committee

July 18, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for next steps in planning the socialist fight to defend and expand reproductive rights. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade the right wing has made it clear that their ambitions to eliminate basic civil rights don’t end there. DSA and the socialist left need to organize an immediate and long-term strategy to make abortion rights a protected medical procedure for all who need it. However, this is not enough. The fight for reproductive rights needs to include intersectional demands for Medicare for all, gender affirming care, and the structures to make having children affordable to the working class, including: 1 year paid parental leave, public quality childcare, fully funded public education, and access to social housing.

Planned Parenthood and the Democrats have failed over the last 50 years to have abortion rights codified into law. The Democratic Party has failed working-class parents while supporting the corporations that profit off of their labor. It is clear that a bold intersectional socialist intervention and leadership is needed in this time of crisis and the years to come.

These are just some of the reasons why we need to build the socialist working-class wing of the feminist movement and attract more people to join DSA and create alternatives to the messaging of “voting blue no matter who”.

Sign up to get notified about upcoming socialist feminist activities and to receive the Zoom link for this meeting on Monday July 18th at 6:30pm! Please mark your calendar and invite friends. We will discuss and organize the next steps for our work, including discussing and approving the reproductive rights working group charter and putting out the call for candidates to run for co-chair of the working group.
