Solidarity day with NWDC detainees

September 7, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Opened in 2004, the NWDC is a privately owned and operated by the GEO Group on behalf of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The NWDC’s current capacity is 1575, making it one of the largest immigration prisons in the United States.

Seattle and South Sound DSA:

If you have time and are available to make the trip out, meet in front of the prison 9/7/2018:

6:00 pm, bring signs and art-making materials, or any art you would like to leave behind in protest of inhumane ICE policies, and a private prison where inmates can earn $1 a day. And/or in support and solidarity with inmates participating in the national prison strike, and inmates currently participating in hunger strikes.

The Tacoma PD has forced protesters out of directly occupying the space in front of the prison multiple times, help us create a gallery of public art to show community support for detainees has not dissipated, and the fight will not be given up. Help us raise awareness and build momentum for the national movement to abolish ICE.

Join a group of activists who have been protesting the NWDC with a direct occupation which began last June, but is no longer currently in effect. There will be a noise demonstration at 9:00 pm and a candlelight vigil at 9:30 members of the community who will do readings and share their personal experiences.

This community group is involved with setting up the noise demo and the vigils.
