Strikes, Blockades & Mass Protests: Columbia’s Mass Working Class & Youth Uprising Next District 3 Mtg
June 3 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Short URL: https://seattledsa.org/?p=20985
Since the end of April there has been a mass uprising in Columbia of mass demonstrations, general strikes, and blockades. The initial spark was the imposition of a hated tax increase, however, underlying anger over endemic poverty and violence, exacerbated by the pandemic, fueled the uprising. In response, the state has been brutal, killing protesters. While the Biden Administration and Democratic Party politicians have condemned the state violence, Biden and the Democratic Party have supported free trade deals that impoverished millions of Columbians and supported deporting Columbians who were fleeing from violence. From Black Lives Matter to Israel / Palestine to Columbia, what’s causing the global eruption of mass protests? What can we learn from the tactics of strikes and blockades? What role has US imperialism and the Democratic Party played in Columbia and in Latin America? What are the roles of socialists and the fight for socialism in mass struggle?
Join District 3 members to discuss these important developments from a socialist activist perspective. We’ll also discuss the exciting Nikkita Oliver campaign and how we can pitch in to get them elected, as well as the Kshama Sawant solidarity campaign.
