Vaccine Apartheid: COVID Crisis in Global South & Big Pharma Profits – What can DSA do?
A deadly new wave of infections is ravaging India and South America, exacerbated by the for-profit nature of the big pharmaceutical corporations who own the vaccine patents and are refusing to waive their rights to them; and countries like the US or those in the EU who’ve inked huge contracts for hundreds of millions of vaccines, far more than their populations needed. Big Pharma is clearly putting profits before human need, but it goes beyond them to include the manufacturers and distributes medical equipment, PPE, Bill gates, and more. What does this tell us about capitalism? What can we, DSA, do to help? Can we rely on Biden and the Democratic Party? What is the socialist solution?
We’ll also be discussing what we can do in District 3 for the Nikkita4Nine Campaign and the Kshama Sawant Solidarity Campaign.
