Join Seattle University YDSA and Dr. Larry Cushnie (Faculty at South Seattle College and Instructor of Labor Studies at UW Seattle) for:
Fear of the Bolshevik Mob: the History and Legacy of the 1919 Seattle General Strike
Ninety-nine years after the Seattle General Strike froze the city in its tracks, join Dr. Larry Cushnie to learn how the media of the time stoked fears of the Russian Revolution to vilify and isolate the strikers. After years of wartime government repression of the Industrial Workers of the World, Dr. Cushnie explains that they were portrayed as the strike’s leaders in order to cast it as “anti-American,” and to diminish the support of the city’s Labor Council.
