Our movement to Tax Amazon to fund housing, jobs, and Green New Deal programs has built powerful momentum. Through a series of grassroots action conferences, we’ve democratically decided on key aspects of our strategy. Since we’ve never relied on the political establishment to act, we filed our grassroots ballot initiative to tax Seattle’s biggest corporations to raise $300 million per year, funding housing, jobs, and Green New Deal programs.

In solidarity with our movement, Councilmembers Sawant and Morales introduced Tax Amazon legislation to address the triple emergency of a pandemic, mass unemployment, and housing crisis. In response to our movement, and outrageously acting on behalf of big business and the political establishment, Council President M. Lorena González suddenly ordered Council hearings and votes on the legislation to be postponed until after May 31 (and likely longer).

This shows we need to rely on our own strength and go all out to gather signatures to get our initiative on the November’s ballot. The alternative to winning our Amazon Tax is government austerity that only increases misery and suffering. Join us at our third action conference to discuss and vote on a way forward!
