Ecosocialist Book Club

March 22, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us the second and fourth Thursday of every month for the Ecosocialist Book Club. We are selectively working through “Eco-Imperialism, Settler Colonialism, and Indigenous Resistance”, a reading list compiled by the Marxist Education Project. You can access the syllabus here.

In each meeting we will discuss one reading from the list.

It is impossible to understand the ecological crisis without putting it in the context of capital accumulation and colonial expansion. From the Standing Rock and Idle No More to the tide of indigenous resistance in Latin America and beyond, Native communities remain on the front lines. This syllabus draws from a diverse array of theorists to develop a systematic understanding of the ways in which capitalism, colonial domination, and ecological destruction intersect, and of the forms of struggle and solidarity it will take to overcome them.

For this meeting, we will discuss Marx’s theory of Primitive Accumulation. Please read Capital, v. 1, chapters 26-33. You can access the reading here.
