D2 Monthly Meeting – A Third Party for the Working Class: Not If but When

August 27, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join comrades from District 2 (southeast Seattle) on Thursday August 20, 6-8 pm, for a lively Zoom discussion on the prospects for an independent working-class political party.

At the DSA national convention in 2019, delegates overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution titled “Class Struggle Elections”  which stated:

DSA is committed to building political organization independent of the Democratic Party and their capitalist donors …  In the longer term, our goal is to form an independent working-class party, but for now this does not rule out DSA-endorsed candidates running tactically on the Democratic Party ballot line.

Within Seattle DSA, there exist multiple opinions on the timeframe for this activity. At our August 20 district 2 meeting, you will have a chance to discuss these alternatives. Two comrades from Seattle DSA will set the stage by presenting two of the more widely held positions, one in favor of a more short-term break with the Democratic Party, and one in favor of the so-called “dirty break” strategy.

Before discussing our relationship with the Democratic Party and prospects of an independent working class party, we will spend some time on the more immediate issue of police accountability, with a power mapping exercise within D2.
