The Democratic National Convention represented the consolidation of the moderate, pro-corporate wing of the Democratic Party and a repudiation of the politics of Bernie Sanders, AOC, and the insurgent left wing candidates like Cori Bush, a BLM activist and DSA member who defeated a dynastic incumbent from the Black Democratic Party establishment. In NY, five DSA members were elected to office. One, Jaamal Bowman, unseated a 16 term incumbent from the Democratic Party establishment, and will add to the Squad in Congress. What do the victories by left wing candidates signify? Can they co-exist with the Biden/Harris wing? Can we reform the Democratic Party and use it to fight for our interests? Or do we need to take steps toward a new political party? What is the role of Socialists in Congress? What can DSA do to hasten the collision between the establishment and the left wing?
