The film documents a 1973 strike by coal miners in eastern Kentucky at the Brookside Mine of the Eastover Mining Company. The miners joined the United Mine Workers of America, and went on strike after the company refused to sign the labor contract. Originally released in 1976, the film is still important today for those interested in labor issues.
